What's next, Waipa?

Our vision is Waipa Home of Champions - building connected communities.

It's all about making Waipā a great place to live - so you, your whanau, friends, workmates and neighbours can thrive.

We're looking to the next 10 years and we need YOUR help!

We've got big ideas for the district and we need to know what you think. Your feedback helps the Mayor and Councillors make final decisions on your behalf.

What exactly is a Long Term Plan?

Our Long term Plan is our most important planning tool that sets out what Council plans to do over the next decade - and how it'll be paid for.

It includes detailed information about the activities, services and projects we intend on delivering, when we'll deliver them, where and how. It also includes funding and financial management information. Ultimately it tells you what your rates may look like for the next 10 years. By law, we need to review the Long Term Plan every three years.

MAKING CENTS OF

COUNCIL DOLLARS

Over the next 10 years:

  • We are budgeting on spending $2.0B on our district including capital and operating costs
  • $0.91B (just over half of our overall budget) will be funded by rates
  • We are looking at an average rate increase for all rate types after growth*, of 1.8% over 10 years with a maximum average increase of 4.1% in the first two years.
  • By 2027/28 our average debt is set to peak at $304M. Even at this peak, we have room to borrow another $108M if we have to.
  • The amount we collect in rates is below 49% of our total revenue for 2021/22 (year one).

* Excluding growth on rates revenue.
